This painting brings back memories of a trip Jeanie and I took with Friends through the Costwold hills of southern England, where small and quaint villages dot the landscape. Here was a scene to calm the heart and feast the eyes, with trees overshadowing the canal, and ducks drifting on the quiet water. And, even more, the woman on the bridge, gazing at the stream could be Jeanie herself!
We may not cross the ocean to go to Bourton-on-Water again, but gazing at this scene may help us to sense God’s presence, and be at rest.
